It is time to sign up for Home Hacker Camp – 2017!  We had a very successful camp last year and are excited to host it again.  We will be building robots using the Scratch programming language to “train” our robots to perform specific tasks (like chase your cat or dog) and complete challenges.

We will learn about programming logic, loops, conditional statements and much more.  We will work with both visual programming & command line programming.  We will learn how to upload the programs to our Arduino based computerized robots – all in a very fun environment!

Our mission is to expose, educate and start a strong foundation in critical STEM skills for kids in a fun and engaging way.

In addition to the robot, we will be building and programming an Arduino based sensor project.  In the Level 1 session we will be building a sound reactive “disco dot” that lights up and responds to sound.  It is enclosed in a 3D printed case.   In the Level 2 session we will be building a home assistant (like Amazon’s Alexa system)!

We will have the the 3D printer running throughout the camp to show kids how it works.  Each night we play “Tech Trivia” to reinforce tech concepts learned and the kids win prizes.

The robots and Arduino project are for the child to keep and continue to work on at home.  They will have the robot, programming tools and code knowledge whey they leave camp so they can continue to modify and make the robot do fun things.

Last year we did a 15 minute FaceTime question/answer session with an engineer from the robot company in Shenzhen, China.  We even learned a couple of Chinese words.  This year we are having FaceTime sessions with an Engineer from NASA.  We want to expose kids to innovation, technology and our small world.

Home Hacker Camp is available to middle school children in 6th – 8th grade.  We have limited space available as the camp is currently hosted in Biltmore Lake.  If your school or company would like to host a camp, please let us know!

Note:  While Home Hacker Camp is targeted for middle school age students, if you have an older or younger child that you would like to expose to these critical STEM skills, please contact us!  We are thinking about creating sessions for older and younger children.

If your child would like to attend, we can take a 50% deposit to hold the spot and get the robots ordered.

Please let us know if your child would like to attend so we can start getting a head count.  Feel free to call, text or email to let us know your child would like to attend or if you have questions.  Spaces are booked on a first come, first serve basis.  We have had waitlists for all previous sessions.  So, register now!

Lastly, we offer scholarships.  If you need financial assistance PLEASE let us know.   Please support and thank our sponsors!  They allow those with financial needs to attend the camp.  THANK YOU SPONSORS!
